2000-2001 PTA Recap

Charlotte welcomed comments from various PTA committee chairs to recap and highlight the events of the past year.

ô      Joan Black, BCC Cluster Co-Representative, explained a bit about what she has done this year as a cluster representative and highlighted the current push for full funding of the MCPS budget.

ô      Donna Atkinson, Diversity Representative, spoke about her year in review.

ô      Paula Fudge, who oversees our Skolnick Garden, highlighted the upcoming plant sale in addition to outlining her love of gardening and how she’s enjoyed her therapeutic weed pulling this past year.  She will continue in this position next year and welcomes participation from anyone interested.

ô      Amanda Manheim, one of the (4) involved in this year’s Book Fair outlined the need to look into other vendors for next year’s book fair.  This year’s book fair raised approximately $2,500.

ô      Laurie Collins, PTA Special Needs Representative, will continue in this position next year.  She has done much for the school in disseminating information and supplying material in the Media Center.  She highlighted some of the key points stemming from a Special Needs Forum that was held in January of this year.   Suggested reading includes Learning Outside the Lines, by Jonathan Mooney.

ô      Priscilla Peterson, Cultural Arts Chairperson, outlined the vast array of cultural arts assemblies held throughout the year.  With a budget of $3,500, we were able to provide six different assemblies – allowing a 3/4-grade viewing and a separate 5/6 viewing.

ô      Carol Henry, who co-chaired our new Tutoring program this year with Jenny Elliot, highlighted what a great beginning this has been for this important commitment, and looks forward to another successful year next year.  The PTA is actively searching for one (preferably more) individual(s) to take on the administration duties of this program for next year.
